FANS PREDICT COBAIN WILL BECOME LEGEND

Paul Muskopf, a 16-year-old Patrick Henry student, predicts Nirvana's Kurt Cobain will become a legend in death.

There was a unique sound, Muskopf said, that made Nirvana stand out in the alternative music scene.

``It was the mix of the music and lyrics played by a trio of musicians. ... None of it would work if it was separated.''

The angry lyrics, which spoke to so many young people, are what attracted K92 disc jockey Air Jordan.

``His lyrics are so bizarre and intriguing. There was one lyric that said something about `the teen angst has served me well' - a lot of self-loathing in his stuff,'' Jordan said.

He agrees that Cobain will become a legend like Jim Morrison and other rock stars who died early in their careers.

``There's that same out-of-control lifestyle that Morrison had - the partying, fights and drugs.''

Nirvana's immense popularity was Cobain's inevitable downfall, according to Yvonne Wilbourn, co-owner of The Underground clothing store.

``He didn't want to sell out to the record companies and become so popular - he wanted to stay underground.''

But that doesn't excuse what he did, she says. ``It was a pretty weak thing to do.''
