To their arsenal, the officers have added booklets picturing licenses from all 50 states and Canada.
"We're just familiar with Virginia and North Carolina permits, mostly," said Police Chief Neal Morris. "For instance, I would have no way of knowing what a valid Nebraska operator's license looks like without this."
Morris saw the Anheuser-Busch booklets on display at a Virginia police chiefs convention a few months ago and returned home to present the idea to the owner of Danville Distributing Co. John Hamlin produced the booklets Friday.
Anheuser-Busch provides the slick booklets to its local distributors for distribution to retailers and police departments.
The booklets are helpful, Morris said, because some states have as many as three valid licenses circulating, and permits are updated in several states on any given year.
According to Morris, fake IDs are used not only by underage teen-agers trying to buy alcohol or sneak into a bar, but also by people who lose their licenses for various reasons.
The booklets are updated annually, and Hamlin said he will be on the list to receive updated versions.
