APRIL NEWS

A series of ``Meet-the-Author'' receptions and readings will be held in April and May at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Branch Library in Floyd. The focus is on local writers, who will read their works Thursday evenings at 8 following a 7:30 reception in the library's Community Room.

The series begins this Thursday with Patrick County's Rebecca Ore, author of the science-fiction trilogy ``Becoming Alien,'' ``Being Alien'' and ``Human To Human.'' On April 21 the guest is Nancy Scott Anderson, author of ``The Generals: Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee.'' Then on April 28 popular teacher, historian and radio commentator James Robertson Jr. is the guest.

On May 5 the Virginia Tech connection continues with the Rev. Al Payne, author of ``A Community at Prayer.'' On May 12 Donald McCaig will read, possibly from his forthcoming ``Nop's Hopes,'' the sequel to his popular ``Nop's Trials.'' Then on May 19 columnist and reviewer Monty Leitch will talk about her history of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, ``Baptized Into One Body.'' At the risk of sounding chauvinistic, few parts of the state or the country could put together such an impressive and varied slate of writers.

Series tickets are $15 in advance, available at the circulation desk of the Floyd library, from Friends of the Library and trustees of the JPMBL Endowment Fund. Individual tickets are $3 at the door, on a space-available basis. All proceeds benefit the library's endowment fund.
