In Galax, Jason Beam pitched a three-hitter as Galax handed Mountain Empire District power Narrows its first defeat, 3-2. Beam, a junior right-hander, struck out 14 for the Maroon Tide (2-4). Narrows' record is 4-1.
In Christiansburg, Blake Hendricks hit a two-run double to help the Blue Demons (4-4) beat Carroll County 5-2 in a New River District game. Jason Kilbourn went 3-for-4 for Carroll County (7-2).
In Moneta, Staunton River scored six runs in the sixth inning to edge Liberty 6-5 in a Seminole District game.
After the leadoff batter reached first on a passed ball, the Golden Eagles hit five consecutive singles and capitalized on an error by the Liberty second baseman to score six runs.
Dwight Orange went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Staunton River (3-4, 3-4).
Jay Smith went 2-for-4 and Jay Dooley went 2-for-3 with a double for the Minutemen (1-4).
