The family of Earl Adams, 14, has reached a settlement with the railroad, William Wilson, the family's attorney, said. Adams and Charles Barker, 13, were hit and killed by a train when they were crossing a trestle in August 1992.
Wilson declined to disclose the terms of the agreement, but said his clients were satisfied.
What pleases them even more, he said, is a new Henry County ordinance requiring conductors to sound a whistle at the trestle where the boys were killed.
"They hopefully have saved other lives that might be in jeopardy," he said.
In its suit, the family claimed that the train should have sounded a warning whistle and that NS should have cleared brush from the approach to the trestle.
About two weeks ago, Barker's family also settled with the railroad for an undisclosed amount. The families were seeking a total of $24 million.
A railroad spokesman could not be reached for comment.
