HIKER AUTOGRAPHS BOOKS TODAY

Leonard Adkins, a freelance writer and lecturer on long-distance hiking, will be at Waldenbooks in the New River Valley Mall Saturday to sign his newest book, "50 Hikes in Northern Virginia." The booksigning will last from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Although the book says it is about hikes in Northern Virginia, many of them are located within an hour's drive of Roanoke and the New River Valley.

Adkins has hiked the Appalachian, Allegheny, Continental Divide trails, and traveled over the full length of the Pyrenees Mountains on teh border of France and Spain. Hisother books include "A Walking Guide to the Caribbean: From the Virgin Islands to Martinique," "Seashore State Park: A Walking Guide" and "Walking the Blue Ridge: A Guide to the Trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway."
