Alex Rygas, the acting board president, was unanimously elected president. Debbie Jonas and Paul Etzel were elected vice president and secretary/treasurer, respectively.
J.B. Cruise, manager of Old World Carpet, joined the 12-member board, which also voted to make Mike Dowell, executive director of the New River Valley Fine Arts Center, a member.
The board's finance committee presented the board with a rough draft version of next year's budget, in the $50,000 range. Several changes still need to be made, he said, before the budget is presented to Town Council in May.
The board also heard from the finance committee that a search has begun to fill the programs director position, which was vacated last month when Roscoe Cox stepped down. Rygas said the program will enlist the aid of the state's Main Street Program to fill the spot.
"You have to have someone hustling and beating the bushes ... to do that type of work effectively," Rygas said.
Jonas said the board is tentatively looking at paying a new director, who would work part time, a salary in the $15,000 range, which would more than double the $7,000 that Cox made. The budget also includes money for secretarial support, although the board places the heaviest emphasis on its advertising campaign.
