RADFORD VIDEO: "REALITY 101"

Before they sign on the dotted line, prospective off-campus student tenants from Radford University may be asked to take a video crash course, "Reality 101." That's the name of a video prepared by the university and the Off-campus Student Council as part of an effort to help students understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants and members of the community.

The 15-minute presentation, previewed Monday by members of the City/University Joint Commission on Public Affairs, emphasizes lease legalities and neighborhood niceties for student renters.

Copies have been distributed free of charge to local landlords and real estate management firms to show to students they deal with.

Commission chairman Paul Harris, the university's vice president for student affairs, said he hopes the video will help to head off problems. He said Radford is the only campus community he knows of that has undertaken a project like this.
