RAIDERS WON'T MOVE TO ORLANDO

The Los Angeles Raiders will not be moving to Orlando, mayor Glenda Hood said Monday, citing a breakdown of negotiations between the Florida city and Al Davis, owner of the NFL team.

"After numerous telephone negotiations, certain economic specifics could not be resolved," the mayor said in a prepared statement.

Davis approached city officials about a possible transfer of his team to the 72,000-seat Citrus Bowl from the Los Angeles Coliseum, which suffered extensive earthquake damage. At the same time, Davis was talking to officials in several other cities.

Davis sought numerous improvements to the Citrus Bowl, including the addition of 70 VIP skyboxes and 10,000 club-level seats. City officials estimated the cost of those and other renovations and improvements on the owner's wish list at $30 million to $40 million.

The Raiders had talked extensively to city and Orange County officials about a possible move. Orlando is anxious to get a professional football or baseball team. The NBA's Orlando Magic has prospered.
