BAND WINS BIG

Sunny, warm, perfect weather for a marching band to compete at the beginning of May.

Unless you're in Toronto, Canada.

The Blacksburg High School bands and choirs took a 13-hour road trip to compete in the Festival of the Lakes. Twenty high schools from nine states played and sang for college music professors and high school music directors.

The band marched in the 35 degree weather, but stiff fingers didn't hurt their scores.

The school, competing against other schools of its size, won eight trophies.

Symphonic band won first, first overall.

Concert band won first.

Marching band won first, first overall.

Jazz choir won first.

Concert choir took second.

Madrigal choir took first.
