The largest item, as always, is for education, which goes up from this year's $17.2 million to more than $18 million, mainly because of an increase of just under $1 million in state funds. The county's share will stay the same at $7,875,260.
The courthouse building fund will take another $2 million in the upcoming budget. Law enforcement and public safety is budgeted at $2.59 million.
Tax rates are proposed to stay the same at $1.50 per $100 of assessed value for personal property and machinery and tools, $4.80 for merchant's capital and 70 cents for real estate and mobile homes.
The county Board of Supervisors approved the proposed budget Monday night to advertise for the public hearing.
In other business, the board changed the time and location for its next regular meeting May 23.
Because the supervisors will be attending the 5:30 p.m. fund-raising dinner for the Louisa P. Chrisley Physical Fitness Center at Pulaski County High School, they changed their customary 7 p.m. starting time to 8 p.m. and the location from the Administration Building to the school.
Gov. George Allen is scheduled to be the dinner speaker. Tickets are $10.
The dinner will be held at the center, which has already seen $200,000 worth of work in money, donated materials and volunteer labor. The gathering will formally kick off the next phase of the project, completing interior work such as electricity, plumbing and carpeting estimated at $75,000.
