DR. DARREL F. POWLEDGE, of Lewis-Gale Clinic Inc., recently received his board certification as a specialist in occupational medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine Inc.

Powledge has practiced occupational medicine at Lewis-Gale Clinic since 1987.

JUDY L. SHAFFER, daughter of Harold and Jerry Shaffer of Roanoke, recently passed all portions of the Vermont Certified Public Accounting examination. She is a 1989 graduate of Roanoke College.

BARBARA M. THORNHILL recently was awarded the Secretary's Hands and Heart Award by the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The annual award recognizes sustained, compassionate and thoughtful patient care. Thornhill is an acute medical nurse.

ADIA PERSONNEL SERVICES of Roanoke has received the organization's President's Club award.

The award is given to the top 10 producing franchises in the organization. Lynn Miller of the Roanoke franchise accepted the award.

MICHAEL TERRY JUSTUS, assistant manager of Henebry's Jewelers, recently completed the Diamond Council of America's course in diamontology and is now registered as a certified diamontologist.

Justus has an associate degree from Northern Virginia Community College.

CHARLES R. SHRADER of Roanoke recently received a SAMMY award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Richmond.

The award recognizes his accomplishments as a regional sales manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia in 1993.
