MONTGOMERY DEMOCRATS CAUCUS, MEETING TODAY

The Montgomery County Democratic Party will hold a caucus and mass meeting today at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

Registration starts at 9:15 a.m. and will close 45 minutes later. County Democrats will elect 29 delegates and 15 alternates to the 9th District Congressional Nominating Convention.

That convention, scheduled for June 11 in Lebanon, is where U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, will be seeking the nomination to run this fall for a seventh term in Congress.

Boucher faces no apparent opposition within his party, but likely will face Steve Fast, a Bluefield College mathematics professor, in the general election. Fast is seeking the Republican nomination.

There is no prefiling requirement to be a candidate for delegate to the convention. But delegates will pay a $5 fee to cover the cost of the convention. The fee can be waived in case of hardship.
