BURTON, Lessie Kincer, 76, of Route 2, Speedwell, died Saturday, May 21, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Maiden G. Burton Sr. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Ralph Miller of Elk Creek, Patty and Butch Brewer of Speedwell; one son, George Burton of Speedwell; four sisters, Mary Hamm of Powhatan, Va., Eva Gay Phillips of Wytheville, Nancy Pond and Claudine Oley both of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Danny Tolley and the Rev. Jimmy Harmon, with the interment to follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Rural Retreat, Va. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. or at the home of the daughter, Patty Brewer at anytime. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

CROSS, Theodore J., 75, of Roanoke, died Saturday, May 21, 1994 at the Veterans Administrati on Medical Center in Salem, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Cross was an executive with FMC Corporation until his retirement in 1981. He began his 30 year career with the company in 1951, when he joined American Viscose in Roanoke. He was subsequently transferred to Lewistown, Pa., and after FMC acquired American Viscose, he was promoted to a Corporate position at their Philadelphia headquarters. His last post with the company was in Charleston, W.Va. He was a 1948 graduate of VPI. Mr. Cross earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, largely in Ireland. During this time, he was selected to be an Honor Guard for Eleanor Roosevelt during her visit to the United Kingdom. He was born in Lone Fountain, Va., the son of Albert and Ruth Joseph Cross. He was raised in Covington. Mr. Cross was a longtime member of the Beta Tau Club in Roanoke, a former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown, Pa., and he was a faithful member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Boone Cross, Roanoke; his daughter, Jolie Cross Doyle and son-in-law, John J. Doyle of New Hope, Pa.; daughter, Catherine Hallberg and son-in-law, Robert Hallberg of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Jean Rice and Reba Smith, both of Covington. Mr. Cross was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Cross will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at 2 p.m.in the Covenant Presbyterian Church. There will be no viewing. Interment will be at the Old Germantown Brick Church in Franklin County. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association. EVANS, Helen Hasseltine, 96, of Salem, died Saturday, May 21, 1994. She is preceded in death by her husband, James William Evans and survived by a special friend, Rubye Davis. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. Mark Radecke officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the John M. FINCH, Avis C., 79, of Christiansburg, died early sunday, May 22, 1994 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a member of McDaniel Lodge #86, A. F. & A. M. in Christiansburg, Snowville Lodge #159, where he twice served as Worshipful Master and McDaniel Chapter #47, Order of the Eastern Star, where he twice was Worthy Patron of the chapter. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Finch; three daughters, Dorothy Finch, Richmond, Judy Harper, Lynchburg, and Carol Cummings of Pennsylvania; a brother, Forest Finch, Salem; a sister, Cleo Hall of West Virginia; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted in the Richardson-Horne Chapel, Monday at 7:30 p.m. by McDaniel Chapt er #47 OES. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 Monday evening at the funeral home. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Donald Peters and the Rev. Richard Horne. Interment, with Masonic Rites, will follow in Sunset Cemetery. VIARS, Ella Tate, 93, of Max Meadows, died Saturday, May 21, 1994 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Zeno and Margaret Etter Tate. She was a charger member of the Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Viars, daughter-in-law, Pearl S. Viars, son-in-law, Henry ``Bob"" Jones, grandson, Ralph Viars and an infant son and daughter. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Ralph White, Pulaski, Polly and Fred Doss, Emily V. Jones, all of Max Meadows; fou r sons and daughters-in-law, Walter L. Viars, Robert ``Jim"" and Cliffie Viars, William and Frances Viars, J. W. and Judy Viars, all of Max Meadows; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Richard Kingrea and the Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
