BROOKS, Faye Linkous, 94, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 1994. Mrs. Brooks had been a resident of Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawville, Va, since November of 1992. She was the widow of Reafford I. (""Slim"") Brooks, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Roanoke. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews including Marsha Duncan, Back Creek and Howard A. Bruce, Radford. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 1994, at Oakey's North Chapel. DEEDS, Lucile Georgia Garnett, 82, of Salem, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, at the home of her beloved sister and friend to the end, Kathleen Martin. Mrs. Deeds was a registered nurse having trained at the Jefferson Hospital. She is preceded in death by her father, Frank W. Garnett, a long time employee of N&W Railroad; mother, Florence Austin Garnett; husband, Harman Walter Deeds. She is survived by two sons, H. Wesley Deeds, Tamarac, Fla., LTC Lary Deeds, Germany; two daughters, Joyce D. Golladay. Silver Spring, Md.; Karen D. Heald, Redondo Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Kathleen Martin and Audrey Layman, both of Salem; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was a very active and much loved member of the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church at Nicks Creek Chapel. She is survived by one brother, Joseph Bruce Arnold of Atkins; several nieces and nephews. VAUGHAN, Walter Lynwood Sr., 74, of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, May 13, 1994, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The son of Malcome Vaughan and Lucy Parrish was born in Victoria, Va. in 1919, raised in Roanoke, Va. where his father was a mechanic for the Railroad. He served as a captain in WWII and was awarded the silver star that is now displayed at the Virginia Military Institute - his Alma Mater. After the war, he moved to Memphis, Tenn. where he married Will Fulmer. He retired as purchasing agent for the C.P. Hall Company in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Will F. Vaughan of Memphis; two daughters, Lucy Parrish Vaughan, Boston, Mass., Frances Griffin Vaughan, Memphis, Tenn.; son, Walter Lynwood Vaughan, Memphis, Tenn. and three children.
