BROOKS, Faye Linkous, 94, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 1994. Mrs. Brooks had been a resident of Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawville, Va, since November of 1992. She was the widow of Reafford I. (""Slim"") Brooks, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Roanoke. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews including Marsha Duncan, Back Creek and Howard A. Bruce, Radford. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 1994, at Oakey's North Chapel. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 1994, at Oakey's North Chapel.

BURNETT, Charlie Green, 80, of Willis, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 1994. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.

BURTON, Janice Elaine, 76, of Mouth of Wilson, Va., passed away Wednesday, May 25, 1994. The body will be cremated. There will be no service. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. is in charge.

DEEDS, Lucile Georgia Garnett, 82, of Salem, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, at the home of her beloved sister and friend to the end, Kathleen Martin. Mrs. Deeds was a registered nurse having trained at the Jefferson Hospital. She is preceded in death by her father, Frank W. Garnett, a long time employee of N&W Railroad; mother, Florence Austin Garnett; husband, Harman Walter Deeds. She is survived by two sons, H. Wesley Deeds, Tamarac, Fla., LTC Lary Deeds, Germany; two daughters, Joyce D. Golladay. Silver Spring, Md.; Karen D. Heald, Redondo Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Kathleen Martin and Audrey Layman, both of Salem; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held noon Friday at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Salem.

GROGG, Hazel Arnold, 82, of Marion, widow of Robert J. Grogg, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, in Francis Marion Manor. She was a very active and much loved member of the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church at Nicks Creek Chapel. She is survived by one brother, Joseph Bruce Arnold of Atkins; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Childress and the Rev. Michael Weller officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

HALL, Lewis Nathan, 82, of Check, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at his home. He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Margie Hunley of Roanoke. HODGES, Pearl Clingenpeel, 86, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Q. Hodges and a son, Carl D. Hodges. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond L. and Eleanor L. Hodges; daughter and son-in-law, Gladys H. and Elvis C. Flora; daughter-in-law, Myrtle S. Hodges; sisters, Ida Hodges, Rena Cummings, Ruth Stevens; brother, Ralph Clingenpeel; also five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, 1994, at Lotz Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Keith W. Simmons and the Rev. Willard Bowman officiating. MABRY, Lee Browning, 48, of Adelanto, Calif., and formerly of Laurel Fork, Va. passed away Sunday, May 22, 1994, at his residence in Adelanto, Calif. Born March 9, 1946 in Pulaski County, Va. the son of Herman Ray and Jackie Mabry. He is survived by his mother, Jackie Mabry, Laurel Fork; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Raylene and Floyd Ashton, Laurel Fork, Page and Peter Link, Charleston, S.C.; three nephews, Jay Callan, Adam Ashton, Nicholas Ashton; one niece, Sara Ashton; special friend, Velda Murphy, Adelanto, Calif. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 1994, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, Va. with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. MATHENY, Mary Virginia Minter, 79, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Granville Emerson Minter and Byron Judson (Tommy) Matheny. Mrs. Matheny was a former employee of Friendship Manor. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Gail A. and Ed M. Harris, Blue Ridge; son, James R. Minter, Roanoke; grandchildren, E. J. Harris Jr., Kevin Harris, Brian Harris, William Minter; and four sisters. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Burial Park by the Rev. Frank W. Feather. MURPHY, Cora Stewart, 92, of Radford, died Monday, May 23, 1994, in a Radford Hospital. She was born December 27, 1901, in Pulaski Co. to the late George Stewart and Alice Palmer Stewart. She was the mother of First Baptist Church West Street, Radford. She a member of Frances Saunders Missionary Society, the Usher Board and Chairman of the Beautification Com mittee of First Baptist Church, member and past Worthy Matron of Jones Chapter #81 Order of the Eastern Stars P.H.A. She was preceded by her husband, Louis Fred Murphy and survived by two daughters, Mary M. Coles, Radford, Ann M. Johnson (Percy), Pulaski; two sons, Franklyn E. Murphy (Maxine) of Blacksburg, James S. Murphy (Tina), Roanoke; 16 grandchildren, Carol Conrad, George Murphy, Ava Watkins, Fred Murphy, Martha Bishop, Rhonda Johnson, Charlie Coles Jr., Lisa Johnson, Louis Johnson, Gerry Murphy, Michelle Murphy, Pamela Savage, Yvette Murphy, Vonetta Murphy, Paige Patterson, Eric Patterson; two nieces and one nephew. Also, extended family: William and Esterline Coles, Radford, Doug and Harrietta Saunders, Radford; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; many other relatives and friends. OVERSTREET, Ethel Bullington, 87, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon B. Overstreet; and her mother, Josie Davis Bullington. Mrs. Overstreet was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church and the Mizpah Bible Class. Surviving are two brothers, B. B. Bullington, and wife, Jo, Lynchburg, Roy O. Bullington, and wife, Elaine, Collinsville; one sister, Doris B. Wall, Danbury, N.C. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family suggests Huntington Court United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Hospice. PADGETT, Jessie Frazier, 90, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, in a local retirement home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carey E. Padgett. She was born in Floyd Co., Va. She was a life long member of The Church of the Brethren. She will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Carey E. Jr. and Carol Padgett of Roanoke, Calvin R. (Dick) and Lois Padgett of Roanoke, Carl R. (Rudy) and Lou Padgett of Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Elsie P. SPRINKLE, Delphine McMillian, 74, of Marion, widow of Lewis Barton Sprinkle, died Tuesday, may 24, 1994 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Trawick of Arcadia, Fla.; three sons, Bart Sprinkle of Bristol, Va., Fred Sprinkle of Louisville, Ken., David Sprinkle of Johnson City, Tenn.; one sister, Carol McMillian Hicks of Marion; six grandchildren, Phillip Sprinkle, Cathy Sprinkle, Dan Sprinkle, Sarah Sprinkle, Darin Trawick and Travis Trawick. VAUGHAN, Walter Lynwood Sr., 74, of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, May 13, 1994, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The son of Malcome Vaughan and Lucy Parrish was born in Victoria, Va. in 1919, raised in Roanoke, Va. where his father was a mechanic for the Railroad. He served as a captain in WWII and was awarded the silver star that is now displayed at the Virginia Military Institute - his Alma Mater. After the war, he moved to Memphis, Tenn. where he married Will Fulmer. He retired as purchasing agent for the C.P. Hall Company in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Will F. Vaughan of Memphis; two daughters, Lucy Parrish Vaughan, Boston, Mass., Frances Griffin Vaughan, Memphis, Tenn.; son, Walter Lynwood Vaughan, Memphis, Tenn. and three children.
