COLEMAN, Dorma Puckett, 97, of Salem, Va., died Sunday, May 29, 1994 in the Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. She was born in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Woodson and Inis Graham Puckett. She was a member of the Christian Life Fellowship Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Heath Coleman. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Inez V. Lanter of Goodview, Va., Fairy Belle Stanley of Salem, Jean and William Carty of Roanoke, Aline and Cecil Crockett of Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Harlan and Sallie Coleman, Glenn C. and Hazel Coleman, all of Max Meadows, Va., Ber nard H. Jr, and Alma Coleman of Christiansburg; one sister, Hattie Lester of Hiwassee, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, 1994 2 pm at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Humphries and the Rev. Mike Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 pm Monday. DAVIS, James Paxton Jr., 69, of Fincastle, died Friday, May 27, 1994. He was born May 7, 1925, in Winston-Salem, N.C. He attended the Virginia Military Institute, 1942-43. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a medic in the U. S. army in the CBI Theater, 1943-46. He received an A. B. from Johns Hopkins University in 1949. He was a reporter for the Winston-Salem Journal, 1949-51, and for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, 1951-52, and for the Winston-Salem Twin-City Sentinel, 1952-53. He joined the faculty of Washington and Lee University in 1953, became professor of journalism in 1963, and served as chairman of the journalism department, 1968-74. He retired from W&L in 1976. He was a visiting scholar to Cambridge University, England, in 1973. He was a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Amherst, in 1983. He was a fellow at the MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire, in 1989. He was an adjunct professor at Roanoke College in 1980. He served as the book editor for the Roanoke Times & World-News from 1961-81, was contributing editorial columnist for the Roanoke Times & World-News from 1976 until early 1994. He was the author of ten books. He served on the board of directors for the Virginia State Library, 1986-90. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, and an honorary member of the Virginia Writers Club, Inc. He was the son of the late James Paxton Davis and the late Emily McDowell Davis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Beckley Davis. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Painter Davis, Fincastle; a sister, Anne Davis Rigby, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, James Paxton Davis III, Collierstown; two daughters, Elizabeth Keith Blouin, Tampa, Fla., and Anne Beckley Coleman, Kennett Square, Pa.; a stepson, Joe Camper, Chicago, Ill.; four stepdaughters, Cathy Camper Goad , Lynchburg, Clemmer Ann Camper Allen, Abingdon, Carol Camper Snyder, Roanoke, and Connie Camper Whiting, Richmond; and by three grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 31, 1994, at 2 p.m., at the Fincastle Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Neal Dunnavant officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at The Club, Roanoke Street, Fincastle. In lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial contributions to the Garth Newel Music Center, P. O. DIXON, Frank Wilton, Sr., 73, of Virginia Beach, the beloved husband of Doris B. Dixon and father of Frank (Bill) W. Dixon, Jr. and Robin Dixon Walker of Virginia Beach, and Michael Drew Dixon of Southport, N.C. Frank, a retired professional photographer and Bond Servant of the Lord Jesus, departed this life May 29, 1994 in Virginia Beach, Va. Frank is also survived by grandsons, Justin W. Walker, Jesse W. Walker, Frank (Trey) W. Dixon III, Michael Drew Di xon, Jr. Myles E. Dixon; granddaughter, Afton Hunter Dixon. He also leaves behind three brothers, Bruce M. Dixon and Dennis R. Dixon, of Lexington, Charles L. Dixon, Lynchburg; two sisters, JoAnn Huffman, Lexington, Donna Shephard, Glasgow; and his 94 year old Mother, Agnes Dixon of Lexington; and many wonderful friends. A service of Christain worship will be conducted at Baylake United Methodist Church, 4300 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, Tuesday, May 31, 1994 at 11 a.m., by the Pastors Bob Brookover and Fran Moody. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Hunter Phillips at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, Va., Wednesday June 1, 1994, at 2 pm. DUNCAN, Cecil Calvin, 69, of Shawsville, died Sunday, May 29, 1994 in a Pulaski hospital. He was a retired employee of RAAP and is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Duncan; two sons, Larry Duncan and Donald Duncan, both of Shawsville; a brother, Dale Duncan, Tenn.; two sisters, Lura Loomis, Tenn., Martha Hylton, Christiansburg; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be 1 pm Tuesday from the Seneca Baptist Church, Elliston, conducted by the Rev. Virgil McCombes with burial in the Den Hill Cemetery. JOHNSON, Barbara Aline Mason, 60, of Buena Vista, died Friday, May 27, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born January 28, 1934, in Rockbridge County, daughter of Nettie Hill Mason and the late George Washington Mason. Surviving with her mother of Buena Vista are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ernest T. Mason of Cumberland, Md., Stephen R. and Edith Mason, and Timmy W. and Tonda Mason, all of Buena Vista; three sisters, Betty Slagle, Frances Fitzgerald and Jane Chittum, all of Buena Vista; five grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter. JONES, Pauline Lewis Miss, 79, of Lexington, Virginia died Sunday, May 29, 1994, at her residence. Born January 23, 1915 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Morris Buford Jones and Margaret Lewis Jones. She was a member of the Timber Ridge (Old Stone) Presbyterian Church and retired from the Rockbridge County General DIstrict Court, and was a member of the Lexington Business & Professional Womens Club and the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Jones Hileman and Nellie Josephine Jones. Surviving are one sister, Juanita Jones Blount, Roanoke; nephew & wife, Charles & Darlene Hileman, Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted at the Timber Ridge (Old Stone) Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, May 31, 1994 at 11 am with the Rev.
