HOSPITAL RELEASES WOUNDED OFFICER

A Roanoke police officer shot by a gas station employee Saturday was released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital Sunday.

The family of Officer J.L. Goad said he was recovering at home from the gunshot wound to his lower leg.

Goad was shot by Kevin Scott Darling during an investigation of a robbery at the Crown station on Franklin Road. Goad went to Darling's house after a manager reported that the gas station had been broken into and Darling was missing.

Police said Darling killed himself shortly after shooting Goad.

Goad's family said they did not know when Goad would return to work.
