Junior Lee Glenn, of the 2600 block of Westover Avenue, was arrested shortly after the shooting by Roanoke County police.
Lt. G.W. Haynes said Taja Crawley, who had been living with Glenn, was staying at the Peters Creek Road motel when a man knocked on her door about 3 p.m.
Haynes said when Crawley would not open the door, the man fired shots at the window. He then climbed in through the window and shot her several times.
Crawley, 21, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, suffering from at least one gunshot to the head. Haynes said her condition was no longer being described as life-threatening Sunday.
He said Glenn, 26, also was charged with breaking and entering and use of a firearm with intent to commit a felony. Glenn was being held without bond at the Roanoke County Jail.
