ROLL OVER BONDS, AVOID CAPITAL GAIN

Q: I have anumber of E Savings Bonds which are near maturity, and I recently inherited additional ones. They have, of course, accumulated considerable interest in nearly 40 years. I am considering transferring them to HH Bonds so I will not have to pay tax at this time on the gain and can collect interest on the HH Bonds.

Would the accumulated interest on the E Bonds be taxable at some later date? Also, can you tell me what is the interest rate on HH Bonds at this time? What is the length of maturity on HH Bonds?
