A. ANDREW KERSHAW has been appointed president of Connex Pipe Systems Inc. in Troutville. In a restructuring of the company's management, GIL GARDNER, former chief executive officer and president, has been named chairman.
Prior to joining Connex, Kershaw was president and general manager of Sunland Fabricators Inc. in Baton Rouge, La. He has more than 19 years of experience in the pipe-fabrication industry.
Kershaw is a member of the Construction Industry Institute "Piping Function" task force, the American Society of Metals, and the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, of which he is a board member.
BANKING
MICHAEL R. BRENAN has been promoted to president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Martinsville-based Piedmont BankGroup Inc. effective June 15. He succeeds IRVING M. GROVES JR. as chief executive officer. Groves will continue as a member of the board of directors of the holding company.
Brenan comes to the holding company from Bank One Corp. in Youngstown, Ohio, where he was president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was president and chief executive officer of Bank One in Portsmouth, Ohio, and executive vice president of Bank One in Mansfield, Ohio.
CONTRACTORS
JACK E. BULLS has joined Branch & Associates Inc. general contractors as an estimator. He will be responsible for estimate preparation of bids and proposals and contract negotiations. He has seven years' experience in commercial and industrial construction and most recently worked for Thor Inc.
At Varney Electric Co., MICHAEL R. VARNEY has moved from president to chairman of the board. He is succeeded by WOODFORD M. FLOWERS, who was vice president. PAUL W. MONAGHAN, ROGER VARNEY and JASON PRICE have been elected vice presidents, and LOUIS B. RAMBO JR. will be company treasurer.
GOVERNMENT
The United States Postal Service has appointed two new managers of customer services: KEVIN S. BENSON will be at the Hollins branch post office and DAVID W. CLARK will be at the Cave Spring branch.
MAXIMILIAN RUGGIERO has been selected director of administration at the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He was employed by the Chesterfield County Department of Social Services as chief of administration. EVERETT WARNER JR has been named maintenance director at the authority. He was director of facility operations at Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center in Salem.
NONPROFITS
At the Council of Community Services, TINA BROWN has been appointed operations manager of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's child and adult care food program; MARY SIMPSON has been hired as part-time health educator for the AIDS Council of Western Virginia; and MICHELLE LUNDY has been named child-care specialist for the Voluntary Registration Program.

The Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Contract Management Association has elected officers for 1994-1995: KEVIN O'KANE, Brunswick Defense, president; AL CEREGHINO III, Babcock and Wilcox, vice president; JAN BONESTEEL, Litton Polyscientific, secretary; MARY RUSSOW, Water Chemical, treasurer; and TOM SCOTT, Brunswick Defense, national director. Two members, KEVIN O'KANE and ROBIN C. SHOOK, ITT Electro-Optical Products Division, were named fellows by the national board of directors of the organization for their contributions to the field of contract management.
REAL ESTATE
JANIE WHITLOW has been named sales manager of Waldrop Realty's offices in Roanoke and Salem. She will be responsible for agent hiring, training and development; sales program development; coordination of public relations, advertising and publicity; and general managment of daily operations in both offices. She joined Waldrop in 1984 as a sales agent.
