BOTETOURT

A guard at the Botetourt Corrections Unit in Troutville has been charged with attempting to deliver drugs to an inmate.

Botetourt County Sheriff Reed Kelly confirmed that Donald Scott Paderick, 28, of Troutville, was arrested on May 25 after an internal investigation. Paderick was arrested by county sheriff's deputies.

State corrections officials would not comment about the case, saying it was a personnel matter. Paderick still is an employee at the prison but was not at work Monday, according to Superintendent J.D. Terry.

According to state corrections policy, if employees are criminally charged, they are suspended indefinitely until the charges have been resolved in the court system.
