MAN CHARGED IN HOUSE FIRE

Michael Wayne Williamson, 31, of Roanoke has been charged with arson in connection with a fire in a vacant house at 511 Seventh St. S.W. on June 4. At least one other fire had been set in the house previously, fire investigators said.

Williamson, who lives in the block where the fire was set, also was charged with the attempted arson May 29 of a 1978 Ford Thunderbird that was parked in front of his home. A rag had been stuffed into the gas tank and ignited. The fire extinguished itself.

Police served a warrant on Williamson, who was in the city jail because he was unable to post bond on a malicious wounding charge.
