MAN UNDER INVESTIGATION IN W. SALEM AVENUE RAPE

Police are investigating a 25-year-old man accused of raping an 18-year-old woman in an alley in the 700 block of West Salem Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Police have not arrested the man and are not releasing the names of the individuals involved in the incident.

Police were called about a woman screaming for help in the area about 3 p.m. A witness told police she heard the woman screaming and saw a man in the area, but that he had already fled. Police apprehended the suspect in the 400 block of West Campbell Avenue. The victim later identified him.

The suspect told police that he traded crack cocaine for sex with the victim. A rock of crack was found by police on the ground near where the woman said she was raped.
