In railing against liberals and Democrats, Allen told Republicans: ``Let's enjoy knocking their soft teeth down their whining throats.''
Dorgan was watching the convention on television when Allen made the remark last Saturday.
``When I heard Governor Allen use that kind of language, I was reminded of how much politics has changed in recent years,'' Dorgan said in a letter to fellow Democratic senators. ``The incendiary, thoughtless language that too many politicians now use denigrates our political system and erodes what little respect people have left for that system.''
He said it reminded him of information distributed in 1990 by Rep. Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., advising Republicans to use tough words like ``traitors'' and ``cheat'' when attacking their Democratic opponents.
