TECH LOSES HEDSPETH

Virginia Tech catcher Denny Hedspeth has signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has reported to the National League team's rookie league affiliate in Great Falls, Mont.

Hedspeth, a Tech co-captain from Virginia Beach, hit .271 with four home runs, 38 RBI and 10 stolen bases in his junior season for the Hokies, who won the Metro Conference tournamnent championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Hedspeth had a .977 fielding percentage and 39 assists and was credited with helping Tech's pitching staff excel at year's end.
