Recent studies suggest that more than 90 percent of parents use child safety seats incorrectly. Some forms of misuse are severe enough to make the seats unsafe or even harmful in a crash.
The inspection site will be in front of Leggett, near Virginia 419. The free inspection is co-sponsored by John Norman Clothiers and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Inspectors will take about15 minutes to check the seat for correct installation and make sure the child is properly restrained in the seat. Expectant parents also may stop by for free advice on buying and installing child safety seats.
Coloring books for children and free literature on child safety seats will be available.
Common safety-seat misuse stems from seat-belt systems that aren't designed to hold a seat securely.
