CLAXTON, Hattie Josephine Ford, 74, of Elliston, died Thursday, June 16, 1994 at a local hospital. She was a life member of First Baptist Church in Ellisto n where she was a very active member. She was Charter President of the Usher Board serving as President for 17 years. She was Chairperson of the Program Committee, President of the Willing Workers Missionary, member of the Senior Choir, Chairperson of the Homecoming Committee, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Pastor's Aide, member of the Womens Auxiliary of Valley Baptist Association, Virginia State Ushers Board Member, Lott Carey Missionary, member of Vacation Bible School, member of the Deaconess Board, a foster mother of New River Valley Community Action, active participant in the Valley Baptist State Convention, Missionary Baptist District B.C. Convention. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Polly Ford, her husband, James H. Claxton, bothers, Leander and Lafayett, a sister, Mable, a daughter, Mildred, great-grandson, Brendan. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Bea) Claxton; son and daughter-in-law, William Sr. (Ronnie) and Ann Ford, Elliston; foster son, Tommy Sherman, Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, Darlene, Kathryn, Bill, Kenneth, Reggie; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Ida Ford, Elliston; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; a special friend, Audrey Bryant. She was retired from the VA Canteen Service and was a former employee of the Grant E. Bryant Funeral Home. The remains will be taken to the First Baptist Church, Elliston 4 p.m. Sunday and a memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church. COPENHAVER, Herbert McKee, (Copey), 86, of Roanoke, formerly of Salem, died Thursday, June 16, 1994 in Community Hospital. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and graduated from Roanoke College then went on to receive a Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee. He was a Navy World War II veteran, then returned to Salem to teach and coach at Andrew Lewis High School where he retired after 25 years. Survivors include his devoted wife of 59 years, Avis W. Copenhaver; a sister, Ella Mae Chilton of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the East Hill Cemetery in Salem with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. DUNCAN, Anna Rosenbaum, 84, of Chilhowie, died Friday, June 17, 1994, in Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg. She was a life long resident of Smyth County. She was a retired Smyth County School Teacher and active in Riverside Extension Homemaker Club. She was a member of Faith Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley William Duncan. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Dale Oliver, Blacksburg; two brothers, Ansel Rosenbaum and Joe Rosenbaum both of Chilhowie; two granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Brenda Oliver, Blacksburg, Debbie and Rick Dustin, Springfield, Ohio; two great-grandson, Michael and Erik Dustin, Springfield, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday in Mountain View United Methodist C hurch with the Rev. Donald M. Green officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. REED, Gary Dean, 37, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Rich Creek, Va., died Wednesday, June 15, 1994, at an Atlanta hospital following a long illness. Born November 17, 1956, at Pearisburg, Va., he was the son of Alfred Dean and Billie Sue Hamby Reed of Rich Creek, Va. Mr. Reed was employed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute of Atlanta, Ga. and served as manager of the Brookwood Forest Condomi nium Assoc. in Atlanta. He attended Georgetown College of Georgetown, Ky., the Georgia Institute of Marietta, Ga. He was a 1974 graduate of Narrows High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rich Creek, Va. Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Terry Reed of Reston, Va.; one sister, Sherry Jennings; brother-in-law, Steve Jennings; niece, Lindsay and newphew, Andrew, all of Downingtown, Pa.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Hamby of Rich Creek, Va. Mrs. Renick was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and Corresponding Secretary of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She retired from Eli Lilly Company.
