The team's 132 swimmers opened their season earlier this month with a convincing victory in a four-team meet at Olympic Pool in Roanoke. The Sunfish scored 1143 points, almost twice that of runner-up and host Olympic's 610. Forest Hills was third with 569 and Read Mountain was fourth with 167.
TRACY NG and WILL BRUNNER set team records in the meet - both in the 50-meter backstroke for 9-10 year olds. Ng set the girls record at 41.37 seconds while Brunner established a mark for boys at 40.79 seconds.
Nine swimmers were double winners for the Sunfish in their meet, including seven in the Gold Division (the highest category). In the Gold Division, winning two events were YVONNE NG (Girls ages 7-8, 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke); Brunner (Boys ages 9-10, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke); DAVID RHINESMITH (Boys ages 11-12, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke); ELIZABETH NEWCOMB (Girls ages 15-16, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke); ANDREW DORSEY (Boys ages 15-16, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke); SARAH CLEMENTS (Girls ages 17-18, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke); and JAMES WOLFE (Men ages 25-39, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke).
The two other double winners came in the Bronze Division: MAGGIE ONEY (Women ages 19-24, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke) and SUSAN ERIKSSON (Women age 40-and-over, 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke).
The Sunfish continue their season with two more dual meets and the City/County Championships on July 29-30 at the Dedmon Center in Radford. The team is coached by Wolfe, a member of the Penn State swim team. Wolfe is assisted by Oney, LORRAINE ADDAIR, JEN GRIZZARD, ALAN DAVIS, JEFF MURRAY and KARIN SOLBERG.
Also, many of the Sunfish are members of the Southwest Aquatic Team (SWAT), coached by BILL BEECHER and compete year-round.

Three SWAT swimmers travelled to Ohio recently, for the Bowling Green Invitational, finishing eighth among the small teams in the meet. NORBERT HUBER, SARAH BRUNNER and Wolfe represented the team.
Wolfe was the only swimmer who placed in the top eight in any event, getting fifth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 50 freestyle, seventh in the 100-meter backstroke, seventh in the 200 individual medley, and eighth in the 100-meter butterfly.
Huber was selected the Sunfish swimmer of the month for May. He attended all but one practice session - including three extra practices. And the 11-year -old competed in his first meet for SWAT, placing 11th in the 200 individual medley and 12th in the 50 breastroke in Kingsport, Tenn.
TRI-TALENTED KIDS:A relay team from Christiansburg captured first place in the 10th Annual Iron Kids Triathalon in Roanoke earlier this month.
LANCE REYNOLDS swam 400 meters, then DREW ATKINSON bicycled 10 kilometers and JASON EDMONSON finished by running 2 kilometers.
BATS AND BALLS: Pitcher ADAM DALTON has not allowed a hit in 10 innings, helping the Braves (7-1) hold on to first place in the Pulaski Dixie Majors (ages 11-12).
Dalton began his streak by striking out 11 during four innings of hitless ball in an 5-2 win over the Bombers.
He then pitched four innings of no-hit ball and went 3-for-3 at the plate in a 16-0 victory over the Mudcats. JUSTIN BARKLEY went 4-for-4 and KELLEN WOHLFORD 3-for-4 and each scored three runs.
And Dalton continued the skein with two more hitless innings against the Yankees. Offensively, he had three hits including a three-run homer to key a 14-4 win.
In the Pulaski Dixie Minors (ages 9-10), the Astros (6-1) stayed on top with a pair of wins. T.J. THORNTON hit a two-out three-run double to key a 7-3 win over the Pirates. And ELIZABETH HAGER led the way with a three-run homer in a 13-3 victory over the Braves. She finished with three hits, three runs scored and four RBI.
ON TARGET: Triangle Bowhunters of Blacksburg will hold a 3-D Archery Tournament on Sunday at the range at 1250 Burley Lane.
Registration is from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $8 for individuals or $20 per family.
There will be 25 McKinzie Targets with new centers. One arrow per target. The maximum distance is 45 yards.
Competition will be held in several divisions with trophies for the top three finishers in each.

SPIKES AND SETS SCENE: St. Paul Methodist II and Cambria Baptist I added tournament titles to their regular season championships in post-season volleyball action in Christiansburg.
St. Paul II lost only one game in three tournament games to capture the Church Coed A League tournament. It beat sixth-seeded Presbyterian I 15-8, 15-13 for the title.
Meanwhile, Cambria didn't even suffer a loss in tournament play. It downed regular-season runner-up Belmont Christian 16-14, 15-9 in the finals.
SULTANS OF SOFTBALL: Southern Classic Car Wash (6-0) won the battle of unbeatens to take over the top spot in the Christiansburg Men's Open Softball League. Southern Classic took the top spot with a 9-8 win over Ken and Barbs (6-1).
First Christian (6-2) has won six straight games and holds a one-game lead in the Radford City Church League over L.P.E. (5-3). First Christian beat L.P.E. 17-2 when the teams met earlier this month.
STILL MORE CAMPS:The Doug Day All-Star Basketball Camp will be held at Radford High School on July 11-14 and August 1-4.
The day camp is for boys and girls ages 8-18 and runs 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day. The camp director is former Blacksburg High School and Radford University basketball star DOUG DAY.
The cost is $85. Registration ends June 30 for the July camp and July 28 for the August camp.
