Bonnie Svrcek, Blacksburg's assistant town manager, was named Virginia's Outstanding Assistant Town Manager last week at the summer meeting of the Virginia Local Government Management Association held in Virginia Beach.
Svrcek, who has worked for Blacksburg for four years, also worked as interim director of the Public Works Department from November through this month. That, along with the town's achievement of the U.S. Senate Productivity Award and the Virginia Municipal League's President's Award for Entrepreneurial Government, singled her out as the top assistant in the state.
"We are all very proud to be associated with someone who cares so passionately for her profession and fellow human beings," said Blacksburg Town Manager Ron Secrist.
Svrcek previously worked as a budget analyst for Fairfax County. She holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.
The award is presented in memory of Martha Mashaw, a former Blacksburg assistant town manager. The association is made up of more than 400 local government officials, mostly managers and assistant managers of towns, cities and counties from across the state.
