The 250-watt transmitter on Prices Mountain - officially a "translator" - rebroadcasts the classic rocker's main-channel (96.3 FM) signal at 96.7 FM. The translator will improve reception in buildings and dormitories in and around Blacksburg.
"We're really excited about it," said Slenski, who calls the translator "a mini-radio station."
The Blacksburg transmitter got off to a shaky start earlier this year. It went on air in February, but its tower was toppled in the ice storms. More recently, the transmitter building was zapped by lightning.
With those problems behind it, Slenski said the station is getting lots of calls from happy New River Valley listeners.
