At what point does a company have to tell its employees that it plans to downsize and may offer a buyout incentive to get them to leave?

That moment may be a lot sooner than most employers expect, because a series of court rulings has concluded that federal pension law requires a company to tell its employees tha moment management enters into "serious" discussions about a possible downsizing po "reengineering" plan.
