POLL FINDS AMERICANS LESS PATRIOTIC

Americans widely believe people in this country are less patriotic than in previous decades, according to a Gallup poll.

About two-thirds of those polled said they are extremely patriotic (21 percent) or very patriotic (43 percent). Just 28 percent said they are only somewhat patriotic and 7 percent said they are not especially patriotic.

America's Talking, NBC's all-talk cable network, commissioned the poll to use on its July 4 launch date and released results Sunday. The Gallup Organization said it interviewed 1,013 adults by phone June 17-19, and results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The opinion that Americans are less patriotic was held by 73 percent, regardless of age or feelings of patriotism, researchers said. - Associated Press
