BEATTY, Julia Belle, 100, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 4, 1994. She and her older sisters were recently featured in Roanoke Times & World-News acknowledging that they all had their 100th birthday. Survivors include her sisters, Jeanette Anderson and Lelia Carter, both of Roanoke; two nephews, Charles (Ruth) Anderson and Reginald Anderson, both of Roanoke; two nieces, Lenora (Andrew) Negley, Louisville, Ky., and Elsie T. Hutton, Fleming, Ky.; cousins, Mary Talford and Amelia Rogers, both of Big Stone Gap; several grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, 1994, at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. U. N. Broady will officiate with interment in St. Andrews Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

BOLLING, John Henry, 81, of Montvale, died Monday, July 4, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.

BRADLEY, Barbara, of Santa Fe, Texas, died Monday, July 4, 1994, after a lengthy illness. She was involved in The Girls Scouts of the U.S.A. for eighteen years, serving Virginia Skyline and South Texas Girls Scouts Councils. Survived by one daughter, Kelli Walterson; one son, Kevin Walterson; mother, Shirley Collins; father, Norman Davis; grandmother, Ruby Whitlock; three brothers; four sisters; two grandchildren; beloved friend, Terri Roach. Services 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 1994, at SouthPark Chapel with Rev. Mark Denison officiating. Interment SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland. Visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 1994.

BROWN, Blanche L., 80, of Troutdale, Va. passed away Tuesday, July 5, 1994. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. in charge of arrangements.

BRYANT, Ermond Richard, 69, of Riner, died Monday July 4, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. He was born February 13, 1925, in Fieldale to the late Emmett Richard Bryant and Selma Goode Bryant. During World War II, he served as a flight officer in the U. S. Air Force. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University. Mr. Bryant retired from Federal Government service having worked as a quality assurance specialist at the Radford Army Arsenal. He was a former member of Fieldale Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Stuart. Survivors includ e his wife, Laura Slaydon Bryant, of the home; daughter, Elizabeth B. Chewning, Fredericksburg; son, E. Richard Bryant, Jr., Ridgecrest, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. John (Mae B.) Perry, Mrs. James (Edith B.) Joyce, Mrs. Ralph (Lorene B.) Pickup, all of Fieldale; three grandsons; two great-grandsons. Memorial services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Fieldale Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Harrison officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday at the McKee Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of sister, Mrs. Ralph Pickup of Merriman Rd., Fieldale. CARTER, Viola B., 85, of Friendship Manor, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 1994. She was retired from Advance Stores General Offices, and is survived by two sisters, Iva Carter Burgess, Roanoke, and Martha Deveraux, Affton, Mo. McCraw of Vinton; two nieces, Mary Esther Thornhill of Bluefield, W.Va., Margaret M. Robinson of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla.; three nephews, Paul L. McCraw of California, James Stone of South Carolina and Joe L. Austin, Layton, California. GORDON, Lucille Munsey, 85, died Monday, July 4, 1994 at her home in Pearisburg, Va after a ten year battle with cancer. Mrs. Gordon was born on June 4, 1909 in Staffordsville, Va., and was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Vertie Whittaker Munsey. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, and was also a longtime employee of the B&B Stores in Pearisburg. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Estel M. Gordon of Pearisburg. They had been married 66 years; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Andrew J. and Evelyn Gordon of Roanoke, VA; one granddaughter, Susan M. Gordon of Christiansburg, Va.; one sister, India M. Jennelle of Eggleston, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 1994, at 2:30 p,.m. at the Givens Fune ral Chapel in Pearisburg, Va with the Rev. Freddrick L. Long and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. HARRISON, Daisy Lee Fisher, 73, of Wytheville, died Monday evening, July 4, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Joe Manuel, Troutdale, Oregon; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ann Fisher, Roanoke; a special friend, Ada Kirby, Wytheville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Hudler. The interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. MANN, Emmett G., 74, of Peterstown, W.Va., died Monday, July 4, 1994, at a Rich Creek, Va. care center following a short illness. He was born October 29, 1919, at Ballard, W.Va. and was the son of the late Otie W. and Fannie R. Ballard Mann. Mr. Mann was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. having worked there for 42 years. He was member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church, and the John Dove Lodge #78 A.F. & A.M., Peterstown W.Va. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Spangler Mann; three sons, Harold Glenn Mann, Princeton, W. Va.; Ronald E. and Marvin D. Mann, both of Peterstown, W.Va.; two sisters, Gracie M. Parrot, Princeton, W.Va., and Lydia R. Pennington, Midway, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Harold Wayne, Rodney, Todd, and Kenny Mann. MARTIN, Lois Vivian, 70, of Salem, died Tuesday July 5, 1994. She is preceded in death by her husband James A. Martin. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Terry Holdren, Vinton, Bonnie and Bobby Price, Salem; grandchildren, Lisa, Marlo, and Tracy. Also several brothers and sisters. MORRIS, Kate, 86, Rt. 2 Woodlawn, died Monday, July 4, 1994. Survived by two daughters and sons in law; Dorothy and Bruce Higgins, Woodlawn,Va, Margaret and Harry Isom, Jamestown , N.C; one son and daughter in law, Richard and Becky Smith, Harrisonberg, Va.; three sisters, Clover Hill and Hazel Powers of High Point N.C., Fairy Keith of Ruby, S.C.; two brothers, Brady Mink and Jacob Mink of Galax,Va. NESTER, James Milton, (``Jim''), 66, of Christiansburg, has gone to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 5, 1994, at Radford Community Hospital. He was a retired employee of Hercules, and a former employee of the Lynchburg Foundry. He also served as a part time game warden and dog warden of Montgomery Co. He held offices with the Montgomery Co. Democratic Party, and worked the voting polls on election day. He was a great outdoorsman and lover of people. He served the Radford Chapter of the IWLA as President for over 20 years. He also held state and national offices. He was most proud of his work in his church at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Teacher and Lay Leader speaker. He was a dedicated worker in the Gideons, and was past member of the Pulaski Co. Lifesaving Crew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe M. and Mary M. Nester; and a brother, Howard Nester. He truly touched the lives of many many people. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Reva Turpin Nester; two much loved daughters and son-in-law, Diane and Jonnie Phillips of Christiansburg, Linda and Jack Atkinson of Radford; one brother, Ronnie Nester of Radford; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Edwards of Radford, Mrs. Lois Morehead of Dublin; his adored grandsons, Brian James and his wife, Christa T.Phillips of Roanoke and Charlie Milton Carr of Radford; his precious granddaughter, Dianna Leigh Phillips of Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Ruth Y. Nester. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Barry Taylor, Rev. Raymond Kelly and Rev. PAXTON, Clara Davis, (``Coochie''), 80, of Lexington, Va. died Sunday, July 3, 1994, at the Stonewall Jackson Hosptial, Lexington. Mrs. Paxton was born in Rockbridge Co. on May 2, 1914, a daughter of the late Woodie Padgett and Nellie Jane Body Padgett. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Troutville, and was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth P. Conner, and a brother, David Lee Padgett. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Joan E. and Buford C. Wilhelm of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Elburn W. and Tye Eubank of Puyallup, Wa.; three sisters, Dorothy A. Farmer, Richmond, Mary P. Blackard, Titusville, Fla., Margaret A. Mitchell, Titusville, Fla.; one brother, Elburn Bennett Padgett, Bumpass; five grandchildren, Michael D. WADE, Elizabeth Arrington, (``Jackie""), 6 7, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 4, 1994, in a local hospital. She was a member of East End Baptist Church, a member and Past Worthy Matron of Vinton Chapter No. 136 Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield with 20 years service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas E. and Gladys Dearing Arrington and two brothers, Richard E. and Donald W. Arrington. Surviving are her husband, Ezra C. Wade; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Jo and Gene Beard, Roanoke, Debra and Steve Maxey, Salem, Donna and David Childress, Roanoke; brother, Harold L. WALLACE, Ellen Jane Ruley, 60, of Lexington, died Monday July 4, 1994 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Mrs. Wallace was born in Rockbridge County on October 31, 1933, a daughter of the late Clarence Erskine Ruley and Annie Pearl Hostetter Ruley. She was a member of the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church, Lexington, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Wayne Robinson. Surviving are six children, Connie Ellen Robinson, Lexington, Betty Ann Wallace, Lexington, Kathy Elizabeth Martin and son-in-law, Timmy Martin, Lexington, Maynard Lee Wallace, Jr., Lexington, Edward Brooke Wallace and daughter-in-law, Effie Wallace, Buena Vista, Alice Jane Hartless, Lexington; and grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Goodbar and husband, Jeffery Goodbar, Brian Vincent Goodbar, Joshua Alan Hartless, Heather Dawn Wallace, Ashley Brooke Hartless, Brandon Lee Camden, Brandy Nicole Martin, Melody Elizabeth Martin, Alexander Brooke Wallace, and one expected great-grandchild; special companion, Plenn Thomas Clark and many friends and relatives who loved her. WINGO, Sidney L., 70, of Blacksburg, died Monday, July 4, 1994, at his home. Mr. Wingo was born in Montgomery County on July 19, 1923, a son of the late Marvin Call Wingo and Rosa Caldwell Wingo, he was also preceded in death by two sisters ans seven brothers. He was a retired employee of Poly-Scientific. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Leon and Carolyn Wingo, Catawba, James Thomas and Sally Wingo, Dale Sr. and Sandra Wingo and Terry and Sharon Wingo all of Newark, Delaware; one sister, Dorance Wingo Caldwell, Catawba; seven grandsons, three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 1994, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Family Cemetery on Craig Creek Road.
