SCHOOL OFFICERS NAMED

The Montgomery County School Board elected David Moore vice chairman at Tuesday's yearly reorganization meeting.

Moore, 33, who represents Christiansburg, is the board's sole black member.

Barry Worth also was nominated for the position, but the board voted 4-3 in favor of Moore. Two members, Peggy Arrington and Lou Herrmann, were absent.

"Whoever is elected, we realize both of you could do a good job," said Robert Goncz, who nominated Moore.

Moore replaces Goncz as vice chairman.

Goncz, 48, is the most senior board member, having served since 1986.

Blacksburg representative Roy Vickers was re-elected chairman by a unanimous vote.
