NEW COMMANDER TAKES OVER FORT LEE

Major Gen. Thomas Wayne Robinson, a veteran of the Persian Gulf and Vietnam wars, officially assumed command of Fort Lee and the Combined on Wednesday.

Robison replaces Lt. Gen. Samuel N. Wakefield, who retired from the Army on June 28 in a ceremony at Fort Eustis.

A native of Monroe, Ga., Robinson, 54, earned a bachelor's degree in physical science from the University of Georgia. He has a master of arts degree in education administration from Tulane University.

Robison has held numerous command positions, most recently deputy commanding general for Combined Arms Support, Army Training and Doctrine Command, and as commanding general, Army Combined Arms Support Command.
