VARNEY'S 68 LEADS HALEY GOLF TOURNEY

Nick Varney of Salem fired a 68 Tuesday to take a commanding first-round lead in the 16-17 age group at the Andrew Haley Memorial Junior Golf Tournament.

Varney enters today's final round at Lynwood Golf Club in Martinsville six shots ahead of his nearest competitors, Ryan Ketron of Roanoke and Philip Payne, who were alone at 74.
