MAN CHARGED AFTER WOMAN IS SHOT AT

A 29-year-old Roanoke man was charged with attempted murder early Thursday after a pregnant woman told police that a man shot at her.

About 12:30 a.m., a man knocked at the door of Lola B. Overby's home in the 1300 block of Clark Avenue Southwest and threatened to kill her if he was not let in, Overby told police.

Once inside, the man drew a small revolver, placed it to Overby's head, and claimed that the baby she was carrying was his, she said.

Overby told police that she screamed and fled the house to her vehicle. The man pursued, threatened to kill her and fired one shot in her direction, she said.

Overby, 21, was not injured; the man fled in a blue car.

An arrest warrant was issued for Donald Lewis Harris, and police went to his apartment on the 400 block of Day Avenue Southwest.

Officers saw someone in Harris' apartment close the blinds, but there was no response when officers went to the door.

The police tactical team responded and forced its way into the apartment, apprehending Harris, who also was charged with use of a firearm.

Police charged Kathy Lynette Steber, 34, a resident of the apartment, with harboring a fugitive.
