NAMES & CHANGES

Apco names public affairs director

C. WAYNE HASTY has been named public affairs director at Appalachian Power Co. in Roanoke. He will succeed RICHARD K. BURTON, who retires Sept. 1.

Hasty has been public affairs director at Indiana Michigan Power Co., a sister utility of Appalachian in Fort Wayne, Ind., since 1980.

He joined American Electric Power Co., parent company of both Appalachian and Indiana Michigan, in New York in 1976. Before that, Hasty was public relations director of Newport News Shipbuilding Co.

COMMUNICATIONS

JEFF ADAMS has been promoted to vice president of Executone Communications Inc. in Roanoke. He has been with the company 10 years and has most recently been operations manager. Executone is a distributor of telecommunication and hospital equipment.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

PERRY R. DOWNING has been appointed senior financial consultant with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith stockbrokers in Roanoke.

GOVERNMENT

CAROLYN B. WAGNER of the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority has received an award of excellence from the Virginia Association of Counties. She won the award for her work on Celebration 1993, an event recognizing the people who worked to create the resource authority.

MEDIA

LEE CLARK has been promoted to classified advertising manager at the Roanoke Times & World-News. A certified public accountant, Clark began his career with the newspaper as controller in 1988 and most recently was a sales development/research analyst in the advertising department. Before joining Times-World Corp., he was a senior accountant with Brown, Edwards and Co. in Roanoke.

CHARLENE COCHRAN has been named promotions director at WFIR and WPVR radio stations in Roanoke. She will continue to produce and be host of a daily interview program while handling promotions for both stations.

JAMES L. DeSCHEPPER of WSLS-TV, Roanoke, was elected president-elect of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters. He had previously been secretary/treasurer of the organization. Elected directors for 1994-95 were ROBERT G. LEE, WDBJ-TV, Roanoke; ROGER INGRAM, WYYD-FM, Lynchburg; and MICHAEL J. SLENSKI, WROV-AM/FM, Roanoke.

MEDICINE

DR. MASTON R. McCORKLE JR. of Roanoke has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists. He is also a member of the Southern and American associations of orthodontists.

WHOLESALE

DAVID E. FIELDS has been named director of safety for Webb's Oil Corp., a wholesaler of petroleum products based in Roanoke. Fields has more than 15 years' experience with petroleum transporting, storage equipment and environmental regulations. In his new position, he will supervise safety operations at the company and consult with customers.
