200 HOMERS FROM PERRY

PERRY REESE is the ``King of Swing'' in the Pulaski Men's Softball League. Or the ``Sultan of Swat.''

Or more precisely, Reese is the first player in league history to hit 200 home runs.

Reese reached that standard in Golden Corral's 24-3 win over Budweiser.

For the season, Reese has 18 round-trippers, leaving him tied for fourth in the home run race. Golden Corral teammate BRIAN GOLDEN leads the league with 21 homers.

Golden Corral isn't faring too badly as a team, either. G.C. pulled into a tie for first place with a 27-6 win over the Swamp Rats.

Both Golden and Athletes Choice are 15-0.

Elsewhere around the league, Renfro got three home runs from DANNY MARTIN as it won for the first time this season, beating Mr. Bills 11-6.

BOBBY OSBORNE and EDDIE RICHARDS homered twice while KEITH CHINAULT and SHAWN DALTON went 6-for-6 as the Raiders beat LEP Profitt 35-20 in the season's second-highest scoring contest.

YOUNG HITTERS AND HURLERS: The Pulaski Sox won 10 of their last 12 regular season games as they prepared for tournament time.

The Sox (18-7) are in the Dixie Majors (ages 15-18) Southwestern Region Tournament, which began last Friday at Calfee Park in Pulaski.

Pulaski beat Giles, Wythe County, Montgomery County and Carroll County during the streak . Both of the losses came at the hands of Carroll County.

Standouts for the Sox include LARRY MARSHALL, who pitched a one-hitter in a 4-1 win against Giles; JEREMY ALMARODE, who pitched a pair of two-hitters and went 4-for-4 in a 12-2 win over Montgomery County; CHRIS RATCLIFFE, who pitched a shutout, had three hits and scored three runs in a 17-0 win over Montgomery County; and BRIAN ROOP, CALEB HURD and JON DOYLE, all of whom went 3-for-3 in the 17-0 win.

SPIKES AND SERVES SET: Sugar & Spikes has rolled off six straight wins to take over first place in the Blacksburg Women's Summer Volleyball League.

S&S (12-2-1) has a one-game lead over Sharkey's (11-3-1). Sharkey's swept Sugar & Spikes when they met earlier in the season in a first-place showdown. But since then, Sharkey's lost one game to third-place Out of Bounds (9-3) and two games to fourth-place Total Chaos (8-4).

Troublemakers have been making trouble for the opposition in the Blacksburg Coed B Summer League. They have won nine straight games and taken a half-game lead.

Troublemakers (11-3-1) are just in front of No Politeness (9-2-1), which has won eight straight.

SWIMMING ALONG: The Blacksburg Sunfish posted their highest score of the season as they won a home tri-meet.

The Sunfish scored 1,221 points, more than Radford (796) and North Lakes (389) combined.

JEN GRIZZARD set the only team record in the meet. She broke her own mark in the 50-meter breaststroke with a 36.09-second effort. Competing in the Gold Division (the highest division), Grizzard also won the 100-meter freestyle for women 19-24.

Other swimmers who won both the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke in the Gold Division were TRACY NG (girls 9-10), DAVID RHINESMITH (boys 11-12), JAMES WOLFE (men 25-39) and KAYE KRIZ (women 40 and over).

Double winners in the Silver Division were KARIN SOLBERG (women 19-24) and ROBERT SUSIL (men 19-24). And in the Bronze Division, ANDREW KRIZ (boys 7-8) and CATHERINE WHEELER (girls 15-16) won twice.
