MARINE SGT. MELVIN T. WOODING, son of Dorothy M. Lattimore of 6525 Greenway Drive, recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Lynchburg.
MARINE 2ND LT. STANLEY M. LAUCK, son of Claude M. Lauck and Mary S. Kummer of Roanoke, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He received a bachelor of science degree in political science.
MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT in Parris Island, S.C., announced the names of Roanoke Valley residents who recently completed recruit training. They are: Nathaniel S. Smith, a 1993 graduate of William Fleming High School; James D. Hearn, son of Charles A. and Rosa L. Hearn of Roanoke, a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School; and Jason M. Knowles, son of Carolyn S. and Henry E. Knowles III of Roanoke.
COL. CHARLES S. GLASS of Roanoke recently was installed as the commander of the Virginia Wing Civil Air Patrol. He received an Air Force commission in 1956 and served as a weapons director and unit training officer with the Air Defense Command. He also was assigned as the reserve assistance officer and coordinator for Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol.
