MARK L. DENNIS of Salem has been promoted to assistant vice president of Signet Financial Services. He joined Signet in 1992 and is a licensed insurance and securities broker.

JEFF WILSON, a representative of Equitable Life of Iowa's Roanoke agency, teamed with people from Equitable Life of Iowa, the University of Arizona and Westin Hotels to build a playground facility for children on the San Zavier Mission in Tucson, Ariz. The school is on an Indian reservation and is operated by the Catholic Mission.

CLARENCE CALDWELL, the former vice president of finance for Roanoke College, received the Trustee of the Year Award in recognition of his service to the development of the Brandon Oaks Healthcare Center. The award was presented by the Virginia Association of Nonprofit Homes for the Aging .

DOUG WILLOUGHBYof Roanoke has qualified for membership in Putnam Mutual Funds' Golden Scale Council. He is an investment professional with Investors Security Co. Inc. The council consists of investment professionals who have achieved the highest professional standards in serving investors during the previous year.

LEE F. BROOKS, a financial planner with IDS Financial Services Inc., has achieved the professional designation Certified Financial Planner. He passed the certification examinations in financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning and management, retirement and employee benefits, and estate planning.

Brooks is a member of the International Association for Financial Planning and serves on the board of directors of Camp Virginia Jaycee and the executive committee of the Roanoke Symphony Volunteer Association.
