HUMAN FOSSILS FOUND IN NORTHERN SPAIN

Fossilized human bones believed to be among the oldest ever found in Europe have been discovered in northern Spain.

The fossils are thought to be more than 500,000 years old and could provide clues linking European inhabitants of the period to their African ancestors, Jose Maria Bermudez, a researcher with the National Museum of Science, said Friday.

The finds include fragments of a skull and finger bones from a 13-or 14-year-old child, upper jaw fragments from a 3-or 4-year-old and primitive stone tools, he said.
