BYRD, Lula Crotts, 76, of Independence, passed away Sunday, July 17, 1994. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Chapel.

COFFEE, Shirley Frederick, 73, of Route 6, Box 163, Forest, died Friday, July 15, 1994, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Lois Turner Coffee; in additional to his wife he is survived by three sons; seven grandchildren; a sister and a brother. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steve Spangler and Rev. Grover Putnam officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

GREENE, Luther Thomas, 68, of Madisonville, Ky., died Friday, July 15, 1994, he was retired from the City of Roanoke and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ellen Orange Greene; his son, Paul D. Greene of Mortons Gap, Ky; daughter, Linda Greene Saunders of Salem; three grandchildren; his brothers, Floyd A. Green, Boones Mill, Leonard E. Green, Boones Mill, Lewis C. Green, Vinton, Harry D. Green, Blue Ridge; his sisters, Nellie Amos, Boones Mill, Dorothy Cramer, Salem, June Maxey of Salem. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 1994, at Franklin Memorial Park by Rev. Elwood McAllister. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

HARPER, James Raleigh, 63, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, July 12, 1994. Graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Coyner Springs Cemetery. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

HIGGS, Mabel Showalter, 82, of Radford, died Saturday, July 16, 1994, at Highland Manor Nursing Home in Dublin. Born November 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Forest Showalter and Braskie Kenley. She is survived by her husband, Paul Higgs of Radford; one brother-in-law, Fray Spence of Willis; one sister-in-law, Hazel Spence of Willis; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 1994, at 2 p.m. from the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Mr. A. Lowell Altizer officiating. Interment will follow in the Showalter Family Cemetery in Floyd County. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford. DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford is in charge of arrangements.

HOLLEY, Nellie C., 66, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 16, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Bufhurd C. Holley and was retired from the Eli Lilly Company after 30 years of service. Surviving are two sons, Bufhurd C. Holley, Jr., Ronnie D. Holley both of Roanoke; two grandsons, Troy Holley and Toby Holley, Kinards, S.C.; two sisters, Lucille Dooley and Bea Booth both of Roanoke. Graveside services will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Frank Feather officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

HOPKINS, Lillie C., of Bedford, departed this life Saturday, July 16, 1994. She was born in Bedford, Va. on July 31, 1924. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Lawyer L. Hopkins. She leaves to mourn her two daughters, Bernice Wilcox and Mary Patwin, both of Bedford; two sons, Marvin L. Hopkins and William M. Hayes, both of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Virginia Payne and Mary L. Payne, both of Bedford; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 1994 at the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Fairmont Cemetery, Bedford. HORTON, Mae Lefler, 67, of Wytheville, died Saturday, July 16, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel.

JACKSON, Henry Jr., 72, of Roanoke, died Saturday, July 16, 1994 at the Friendship Health Care Center, Roanoke. He was a former resident of Chilhowie and was of the baptist faith. He is survived by three sons, Bobby R. Jackson, Henry A. Jackson, both of Roanoke, Randy L. Jackson, Marion; four daughters, Norma J. Musselman, Salem, Kathy Hill, Patty A. Jackson, Sherry L. Redman, all of Roanoke; one brother, James R. Jackson, Chilhowie; one sister, Carrie Hamm, Chilhowie; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mountain View Cemetery, Chilhowie, with the Rev. E. B. Ford officiating. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie.

SELDEN, Alice T., of Bedford, departed this life Saturday, July 16, 1994 in Roanoke, Va. Born the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Toliver on January 16, 1906. She accepted Christ at an early age, was a member of the Washington Street Baptist Church in Bedford, where she remained a faithful member until illness prevented her from attending. Left to mourn her death is her devoted husband, George Selden Sr.; two sons, Robert Selden, George C. Selden Jr., both of Bedford; two daughters, Alice Charity, Fredericks, Md., Elveyn Selden Scott, Roanoke; two sons-in-law, John Charity, Frederick Md., William Scott, Roanoke; two daughters-in-law, Maxine O. Selden and Esther H. Selden, both of Bedford; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; a devoted friend, Rose Alice Henry; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services Tuesday, July 19, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Washington Street Baptist Church, Bedford. Interment will follow in Longwood Community Cemetery in Bedford. SLOAN, Vola Altis, 82, of Roanoke County, died Sunday, July 17, 1994 at her home. She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Harvey Sloan, and is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harvey E. (Ed) Sloan; her son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Sandra Sloan, Roanoke County; her daughters and son-in-law, Marie and Joe Wray, Florence S. Perdue, all of Roanoke County; a grandson, Charlie Harvey Sloan; five granddaughters, Karen Hartman, Amanda Sloan, Dana Ferguson, Melissa Boitnott, and Beth Rhodes; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Altis, Roanoke County, Robert Altis, Roanoke, Clarence Altis, Staffordsville; three sisters, Irene Callis, Mary Hall, both of Roanoke County, and Clara Barber, Graham, N. STANLEY, Shirley Edwards, (``Nerva""), 57, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 16, 1994. She was the daughter of the late Woodson and Alice Edwards and was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Price, and one brother, James Sterling Edwards. Survivors include five daughters, Marsha Robin Stone, Debra A. Rhodes, Denise M. Stanley, Towanda C. Stanley, and Stacy D. Dudley, all of Roanoke; three sons, Ronald Edwards and Keith A. Stanley, both of Roanoke, and Theodore Wayne Knight, Richmond; a twin brother, Roland Edwards; and one sister, Alyce Edwards Walker, both of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Garden of Prayer #7, with Elder Shadrach Brown officiating. Burial in Williams Memorial Park. STEWART, Raymond, 17, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 16, 1994. Survivors include his mother, Shirley Stewart; six brothers, Linwood Stewart, Melvin Stewart, Clifford Stewart, Leon Craft, Gary Craft, Junior Craft; two sisters, Elois Stewart, and Corinne Craft, all of Roanoke; and a host of other relatives and friends. TAYLOR, Virgil, 87, of Radford, died Saturday, July 16, 1994, at his residence. Born November 5, 1905, he was the son of the late John Thomas Taylor and Clara Elizabeth Pennington. He was a retired self employed merchant. He was a member of Grove United Methodist Church in Radford. He is survived by his wife, Verne Skeete Taylor of Radford; three sons, Dr. John Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., Bill Taylor and Dan Taylor both of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Floy Baten Beaumont of Texas; also survived by two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Dishman and the Rev. Will Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. VAUGHAN, Frank Benjamin, 81, of Vinton, died Sunday, July 17, 1994. Mr. Vaughan was an employee of American Viscoe and a long time businessman in Vinton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita H. Vaughan. Surviving are two sons, Frank Randolph Vaughan, Rockville, Md., Charles Alan Vaughan, Roanoke; one daughter, Laura V. Groshon, Vinton; four grandchildren, Edward R. Vaughan, Silver Springs, Md., Julia Ann Vaughan, Milton, Del., Diane V. Vaughan and Monroe Vaughan both of Galax; a very dear and special friend, Marjorie Bryant, Vinton. (Chip) Wood Jr., Ridgeway; stepdaughter, Gwendolyn Amos, Rocky Mount; seven stepsons, Chipper Arrington, Newport News, Jimmy Arrington, Burnt Chimney, Tony Arrington, Rocky Mount, Waddy Arrington, Boones Mill, Lonnie Arrington, Callaway, Robin D.
