BUCS GAME POSTPONED

Rain wiped out Sunday's scheduled Carolina League baseball game between the Frederick Keys and Salem Buccaneers.

It will be made up as part of a doubleheader at 6 p.m. today at Municipal Field in Salem. The games will be seven innings each.

In other sports in the region:

Roanoke's K.J. Hippensteel won his first-round singles and doubles matches in the 14-and-under division of the U.S. Tennis Association National Clay Courts Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla..

Hippensteel, seeded second, defeated Lorenzo Rojas of Key Biscayne, Fla., 6-1, 6-1. He teamed with Andrew Vu of Reston to beat Peter Cownie of Des Moines, Iowa, and Justin Menolascino of St. Louis 6-2, 6-1.

Robbie Cundiff of Vinton was awarded the victory in the 25-lap Pure Stock race Saturday night at New River Valley Speedway.

The post-race inspection revealed the apparent winner, Tony Rogers of Cloverdale, was using high-performance pistons, which are illegal in the Pure Stock division.
