C. JEFF PERRY, the new principal of Bethel Elementary, returns to Montgomery County Public Schools after serving as the assistant principal of Powell Valley High School in Wise County, Va., for the 1993-94 school year. Perry was the assistant principal at Auburn Middle and High School from 1991 through 1993.
DOLLIE T. COTTRILL, the new principal of Prices Fork Elementary, has worked for Montgomery County Public Schools since 1991 as the assistant principal of Margaret Beeks Elementary. She previously worked for Alleghany High School in Alleghany County, Va., and for the Meridian Public School System in Mississippi.
\ "Parents, Professionals and Children," a CONFERENCE offered by Virginia Tech's Resource and Referral Service, the Montgomery County Department of Social Services and the New River Valley Early Intervention Council, is scheduled for Aug. 12 and 13. The conference is divided into workshops that address issues facing parents, such as nutrition, divorce, child-care choices and parent involvement. Workshops are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Donaldson Brown Conference Center. The registration fee is $10. For registration information, call 231-5183. \ The Christiansburg Primary School Parent Teacher Association, with the help of area businesses and volunteers, sponsored a fund-raising SPRING CARNIVAL on June 6. The event included food, games, prizes, karaoke and a crawl-through maze made of cardboard boxes colored by the school's pupils. The money raised will fund enrichment programs for the coming school year. Star Thornton, the carnival chairwoman, appreciates the community support that went into the carnival. "I couldn't have done it without Doug Morgan, the volunteers and the local businesses," she said.
\ Emory & Henry College in Emory has named JASON LIGHT, a graduate of Floyd County High School, the recipient of the Greever Crouse scholarship. The scholarship, awarded by the Appalachian Officials Association in honor of its founder, is awarded to two first-year students who demonstrate qualities of leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship and scholarship. Jason is the son of Julia and Ronald Light of Pilot.
\ WILLIAM J. KOMALESKI, a rising ninth-grader from Dublin, was selected to participate in the Appalachian Explorers Program. The three-week program, sponsored by the University of Kentucky and the National Science Foundation, teaches students about land forms, energy use and forestry in lab, field and classroom settings. William was chosen for his academic performance, an essay and teacher recommendation.

CARLA CRAVEN, a recent graduate, has won a scholarship from Greensboro College in Greensboro, N.C., based on academic performance, activities and community service. The scholarship is renewable for four years.
HANNAH STORRIE, an upcoming senior, will spend next year in Germany as part of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange. The program, sponsored by the U.S. Congress and its German equivalent, the Bundestag, promotes understanding of the social, economic and political ties between the two countries.
JONATHAN TZE, Blacksburg High's salutatorian, has been named a Byrd Scholar by the Virginia Department of Education. Tze will receive $1,500 yearly to apply to his tuition at Princeton University.
FRED SPEERS will represent the Future Business Leaders of America in a national competition in Anaheim, Calif. Fred will participate in the public speaking division of the competition.
NAHLA DURRANI has been selected to attend the Governor's French Academy in Staunton. The monthlong academy is designed to give students a chance to apply their studies to communication.
Blacksburg High School's representatives to Boys State are KENNETH HINCKER, MARK HOBEIKA, PAUL STROMBERG, MATTHEW BELAY, SAMUEL JEFFREY and JON FREEMAN.
The choral department has named KEVIN EARLY and KELLEY TREAR to receive the 1994 choral award for their years of service and dedication.
