ASPHALT SPILL GUMS UP U.S. 220 TRAFFIC

Commuters who cruise northbound on U.S. 220 from Roanoke County should be prepared for a slowdown this morning.

The right northbound lane, just south of the Clearbrook area between Virginia 615 and Virginia 900, will be closed until about 10 a.m.

Laura Bullock, a Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman, said crews will be cleaning up an asphalt spill that occurred Wednesday morning. Jacks on a parked trailer gave way and liquid asphalt spilled onto the shoulder. The asphalt needed to harden overnight before being broken up and removed.
