MANASSAS GOLFER WINS TITLE

HOT SPRINGS - Sherry Zeleski of Manassas defeated Fran Hensley of Ridgeway 3 and 2 Wednesday to win the 66th Virginia Women's Amateur golf championship.

In the first flight, Kathy Dodd of Countryside beat Teki Richmon of Richmond 2 and 1 on the Cascades course.

In the second flight, Roanoke Country Club's Valeta Pittman beat Marilyn Bussey of Countryside 2 and 1; Joannah Pattison of Wytheville defeated Diana Saine of Annandale 2 and 1, and Ann Kite of The Water's Edge defeated Neva Price of Blue Hills 5 and 4.

Also Wednesday, in the 37th Virginia Women's Senior at the Lower Cascades course, Audrey Najjum of Roanoke Country Club beat Lorraine Houlahan of Mount Vernon 3 and 2 in the championship flight.

In the first flight, Covington's Norma Lemon beat Evelyn Walker of Danville 3 and 2; Brenda Brown of Rocky Mount defeated Eleanor Meredith of The Waterfront 2 and 1, and Susan Shortridge of The Waterfront defeated Barbara Lang 7 and 6 in the second flight.

In the third flight, Kitty Fitzgerald of Covington defeated Joyce Davis of Lexington 1-up on the 19th hole and Madeline Hylton of Blacksburg defeated Mary Vickers of Charlottesville 1-up.

Jane Watson of Covington defeated Louise Bowen of Staunton 2-up; Virginia Syer of Virginia Beach beat Eileen Hand of Covington 2 and 1 in the fourth flight, and Joann Jacobs of The Water's Edge beat Lena Lowry of Richmond 5 and 4.

In the fifth flight, Evelyn Anderton of Roanoke Country Club defeated Sarah Jones of Waynesboro 1-up and Kathy McKenzie beat A.M. Feild of Covington 1-up in 19 holes.
