HOMER IN 9TH LIFTS NORTH 2-1

WILMINGTON, Del. - A solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning by Lance Jennings of the Wilmington Blue Rocks snapped a tie and delivered a dramatic 2-1 victory to the Northern Division team in the annual Carolina League All-Star game Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.

The Northerners had taken a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but reliever Chris Lemp of Frederick could not make it hold up. With one out, Kinston's Jon Nunnaly singled and stole second. He subsequently took third on an error by Jennings, the catcher. Durham's Robert Smith followed with an RBI single to tie the score.

Jennings atoned for his gaffe in the bottom of the inning. His homer came off Winston-Salem reliever Bob Jesperson and carried down the left-field line.

The Northerners had led 1-0 since the first inning. Frederick's Kimera Bartee led off with a double and took third on a wild pitch by Southern pitcher Chad Fox. Wilmington's Johnny Damon then reached on an error by Salem's Chance Sanford at second as Bartee scored.
