GILES MAN CHARGED IN RAPE OF 13-YEAR-OLD

A Giles County man has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl at her Pearisburg home.

Earl Lee Whittaker, 25, of Route 1, Pearisburg, had been living with the family of the victim for a short time before the alleged attack, said Sgt. J.C. Martin of the Pearisburg Police Department.

Martin said the incident happened during the early morning hours of July 19.

Whittaker is free on a $5,000 bond with a trial date set for late August.
