NOMINEES SOUGHT FOR HEALTH BOARD

The Southwest Virginia Area Health Education Center is seeking nominations for new board members to fill vacancies and to expand the board.

Members represent localities from five planning districts - Lenowisco, Cumberland Plateau, Mount Rogers, New River Valley and Fifth District. They serve for three years and meet quarterly, with additional meetings as necessary.

The organization was set up to seek cooperative solutions to health care problems by linking medically under-served communities with academic health science centers. The board is being expanded in size and in scope of representation.

Program goals include recruiting students for health careers, establishing community-based student education and clinical centers and supporting primary care practices through continuing education and better access to learning resources.
